Project Post

Happy Wednesday that seems like Tuesday!
We had a very fun busy weekend spent at home (my favorite place) just doing stuff like not sitting in traffic and sitting in rocking chairs instead of camp chairs outside of a wet tent.
Just kidding noimnot I love camping noidont.

I had the BIGGEST surprise EVER on Sunday night when at 9:00 pm the neighbors mother called to tell me there was someone parked outside our gate with their headlights on honking their horn...
So I told her to go investigate and she did and it was my friend Cheryl from Washington!!!!
Since it was a surprise I had dishes in the sink and dog hair on the carpet but I didn't care because I was so happy to see her face!! :)
We shared pictures and talked about sewing because as you know, that's what sewers like me and Cheryl do.
We talk about sewing.
I think I forgot to show her my bathmat.
That I sewed.
Anyway, it was so great to see her and I can't wait until she comes back at the end of summer!

I made this a few nights ago.

It's a pursebagtote made from a chicken feed sack!!

Now I'm working on this rag quilt from Imperfect Homemaking

Her recipe calls for pretty fabric squares but all I had laying around was sheets and I figured since I use sheets to make rag rugs I could use them to make rag quilts too.
So I started cutting.
And cutting.
And I'm still cutting.
Red squares...

And then I'll cut some fish squares...

Later on when I'm an expert I'll buy real fabric.

My other new favorite thing is bottle trees and I'm going to have Six make me one.
I need to figure out what comes in blue bottles and start drinking a lot of it because I think I'll Six will need about twenty or so bottles and then I'm going to have Six plant it right outside our front door!
Isn't that pretty?

I love it and there's a long history about them that you can read here.

Are you watching the Hatfields & McCoys?
Are you loving it?
We are LOVING it!

Arts & Crafts & Other Stuff

Well, not much new going on here on the farm this week, just a few quick updates on crafty stuff and my favorite neighbor.

The neighbors parents car took a dive, but they listed it on Craigslist and were able to sell it for enough money to buy another car... Which ended up taking a dive the next day.
All the money they had went into that car and now it's a driveway ornament. They have it listed on Craigslist and are hoping to at least get enough money out of it to buy something else.
Life can be such a struggle sometimes, but it's amazing how when you get a little distance from your problems the things you thought were so insurmountable were really just bumps in the road.
Trust me on this. I know. I've gone over a lot of bumps.
I think I'll keep my pearls of wisdom to myself though, because we all know how welcome advice from your mother can be :)

The neighbor is growing like a watered weed!
Smiling and starting to laugh, he is the best thing that's ever happened to me since becoming a granny ❤

This was taken while we were driving around looking for a car for his parents.

The sewing is going!
I am loving it even though I have NO idea what I'm doing, but I watch tons of videos and just keep practicing and I'm staring to get the hang of things.
I'm even getting a new sewing machine for my birthday that comes with an instructional DVD and is super new and improved from the 7000 year old one my grammy used that would be loved by any experienced seamstress, just not a newbie like me.
I need something new and improved and self propelled.
here's what I've made so far...
My purse.

My apron.

And a bath mat!

And today or tomorrow I'm going to make this clothesline coil bowl, I just need to go to town and buy some fancy thread.

Are you on Pinterest?
I am and I love it!
I find so many great recipes and craft ideas.
This is me on Pinterest, follow me to see what I find :)

I've also been busy making a few new rugs.
I did this one...

And this one

And this one is my favorite

It's a 30x20 inch square in front of something rug.

Sew Sew!

Ok, it's time to do this...

I'm starting with an easy bag (the brown polka dot) because I loaded brown on the bobbin when I was practicing so now I'm committed.

I have picked up a few handy tips from ladies at the fabric store and some online tutorials, but it still seems like things always seem to come up right when you're ready to get started on something...

Don't you hate it when the sheep get in the house and wake up the baby?

Here's another little hitch in my giddy up this morning...

Wendy got me two royal palm baby turkeys for my mothersbirthday present!

William and Kate!

Did I tell you Wendy is sewing too?
She's making teaching herself how to make blankets for a friend who's having twins.

Crafty is as crafty does! :D

Two In A Row!

We did it!
Wendy and I and the neighbor kid schlepped downtown to the big Goodwill yesterday for some sheets and made out like bandidts.

I filled the trunk of my car and didn't even have to dip into to the grocery fund :)

And my washing machine has been running ever since.
As I told you though, there is a price, and it's just not a monetary one, but hey, who doesn't love a bargain and really when you think about it, the gettin is half the fun.

We found a GREAT antique pie case for TWELVE dollars that we're going back for today.
We would have got it yesterday, but we didn't have the truck.
Figures.
I hope it's still there, it will look so perfect in Wendys house, but even if that one's gone there were a few other similar pieces that would freshen up with a coat or two of paint that would look almost as good for the same price.

Today we're packing Purell though because I'm telling you the oog that's left all over your hands is enough to give a girl the heebs.

Um so yesterday I went through my dead clothes drawer and started pulling stuff to toss and decided I would wrap my old most favorite pair of pants around my thighs before I bid them one final adieu and uh, guess what...
After being to much of a fatty pants for the past two maybe even three years to yard them over my big wide arse they slipped right on with room to SPARE!
Not only did I wear them to town but I was having to pull them up all afternoon!
What the hell?
How does that happen?
Maybe when I quit worrying about being a fatty a little bit of my fattiness departed.
Don't get me wrong, I celebrated with a McDonalds ice cream cone and I may or may not have indulged in a Dairy Queen confetti blizzard only the day before, I am who I am afterall, I'm no calorie counting Betty, but hey, if the universe wants to give me a pants pass who am I to refuse!

I'll post pictures of Wendys furniture find on Facebook when we get home.

NEW POST!

Ummm, did you think I fell in the pond?

I didn't, I got a new neighbor.
And seriously, how much blogging would you get done with this guy living across the driveway?

Actually we've been very busy with lots of things, not just the neighbor.
We cleaned the barn and took it from this...

To this...

Still a lot of work to do, but it's a start.
We recovered three stalls, the entire front section and an enclosed run on the outside of the barn.
Now we just have to raise the center section and re roof it.
No biggy :)

We cleaned a big part of the pasture from winter blow downs and overgrowth.
That took days, it's a good thing we had lot's of quality supervision.

I've been making lot's of soap and lot's of rugs and found a new market on Ebay.

Ebay?
Who knew?
I thought the competition would be brutal, but Six suggested I try and I started selling stuff the first day.
But I'm all out of sheets for my rugs now so I have to make the trek downtown to the stinky Goodwill warehouse sorting station where I can get stuff by the pound instead of by the item.
All you need is a good air filtration mask and a hazmat suit and you're good to go for a days worth of picking.
I'll take pictures when I go, but I'm telling you right now it's an unsettling sight.

Last weekend we moved Wyatt upstairs and re purposed his room into a guest room and now I really feel like a granny because in my mind only responsible people and grandparents have guest rooms so that obviously puts me in the category of the latter.
I think I need to paint the room white.
What do you think?

The entire house is paneling and we plan to paint this summer.
Do you have any paneling painting tips?
Maybe the "guest room" will be good practice.

The neighbor's here, I gotta go kiss his face.
