Wow, what a day.
I went to the hospital at about 10:00 this morning. GK was ready to go and waiting for his clothes. He told me the Dr had been in this morning and set up a visit with him on Friday. He said PT had been in to help him excercise and he would continue with PT at the new place. We had a long talk about Dr. Barth and why we made the decision to out him. I told him in detail how bad it had been and if it wasn't for Dr.Y he may still be in that condition. GK was happy that we had made the decision we did and was eager to get out and on to the next step.
The nurses came in and got him dressed and ready and we just waited for the "cabulance" to come. I got a little leaky when it was time to say good-bye to all the hospital people. They have all been so nice to us and taken such good care of GK.
Ok, on our way to the nursing home. I get there first and wait inside. Gk and his driver show up with GK sitting straight up in his tall back wheel chair locked into position in the back. Hat on looking out the window making a general assesment of his new digs. Lucky for us, he didn't bolt : )
Out of the van and down the hall to room 39.
Wilmer is waiting. Wilmer is GK's roomate who will be 98 next Tuesday. Wilmer has never married and lives with his 93 year old sister, that is until he hurt his hip. He is in the same boat as GK. Two old guys with bad hips. Only difference is Wilmer is old enough to be GK's Father and is hard of hearing so he shouts at Grampy. Wilmer and his sister live in the house they were born in that their Father built in ought 3. He paid eighty dollars for the land.
Wilmer's sister just fell and had to have nine stiches in her lip and looks like Hitler now, but she should heel up fine. She comes in with their black pug who she was chasing when she fell and busted her lip and scratched her glasses. Her scratched glasses make it hard for her to drive, but she seems to do ok, and still comes to visit every day. She never married either and doesn't have any kids, so they are leaving the house to the historical society in Oregon City.
I am looking forward to some good Wilmer stories.
Gk and I had a nice lunch. Chicken and Burlington brown beans. I didn't eat, but tomorrow I can if I bring a dollar. I'm going to take the waffle maker in and fix up some waffles for GK and Wilmer and maybe even Wilmers sister. I think I'll do that Thursday or Friday. I left about 1:30 so I would have time to get to Bi-Mart to buy some sweats for GK's new excersise program. I have them washing now and then will need to put his name in all the labels. Kind of like going to camp. I got him a bunch of sugar free candy so he can snack without raising his blood sugar and a picture frame for a nice picture of his dogs. I will go to the big house and get a clock and some other homey things for him and spruce up his room a bit.
Camp. I like that. Maybe that's how we could refer to the nursing home. GK is at camp : )
Mike and Wyatt and I will take the dogs in for a visit this evening and make sure he's comfortable. Now that he's back in his right mind I think it would be easy for him to get lonely, so we'll wear out the road between town and home.
John called and is back in town. He will be in to see GK tomorrow too. He has been in Spokane helping his Sister with her husband who has been very sick.
The dentist called today and I go in on June 7th to have my tooth finished. I told her what a traumatic experience it had been having the root canal. She felt really bad and is now concerned there may be problems. She said it shouldn't still be hurtingOHMYGAWD, I have to go...Marcia Brady is on Dr. Phil for being screwed up and fat!!!
