Happy Birthday Wyatt!!

This is just a small scattering of photographs since we moved to the farm in 2006.

I don't think you could handle the entire thirteen years!

Pin This

Are you on Pinterest yet?
Pinterest is an online pin board, a place to find and share all of your favorite things and stumble across stuff you never even knew you needed to love!
Like this little bite of wonderfullness

Ranch crock pot pork chops from Cassie Craves
I'm putting those in the pot for dinner tonight.
And did you know that almost every normal person in the world puts Dr. Pepper in the pot with their pork roast for pulled pork?

Neither did I, but on Pinterest I found this recipe by the Country Cook so I'm going to try it tomorrow.
And then my friend the neighbor lady who was never my neighbor but was my sisters neighbor until she moved away pinned this...

Fix ahead and freeze crockpot dinners from The Test Kitchen of Melissa Fallis
Can you believe all this!
And that's just some of the food, and then there's craft ideas and garden ideas and jewelry stuff and every other single thing you can possibly imagine.
I love Pinterest.

We cleaned the garage on Monday and that job always sucks so bad I hate it.
The we cleaned out our big hall closet and that didn't suck so bad but it wasn't great either.
I didn't even find any good stuff hidden away or hoarded.
Just a bunch of junk.

Wyatt has discovered Duck Tape.
Not Duct Tape, Duck Tape.
Duck tape is purchased at craft and hobby stores and comes in a bazillion colors and designs.
This is the first thing he made.

I'll tell you what, that kid is really something else.
Six asked if he could make him a duck tape sweatshirt and I swear to you right now it wouldn't surprise me a bit if he could.

FYI:
February sixteenth is Wyatt's thirteenth birthday AND the sixth anniversary of the blog.
Please no gifts, remember we just cleaned the garage, we don't want to fill it up again.
Wyatt will be getting blinding violet purple streaks in his hair courtesy of his sister the cosmonaut cosmetologist.
I am trying very hard to visualize the creativity in both of my children as opposed to one child coloring on the others head.

Sick & Tired

Oh my gawwwwd, I was so sick over the weekend and I have a twelve year old germ machine to thank for it.
I think every great illness known to man was hatched in a school setting by hundreds of dirty little hands and snotty noses wiped on sleeves, sneezes sneezed without cover and coughs hacked into the general confined air space of those same small people who will then travel out into a world of unsuspecting somewhat healthy adults.
Oh well, I'm over it and I'm sure my immune system is stronger because of it.
So thank you Wyatt and Canby Middle School for a weekend I won't soon forget.
By the way, Wyatt was very sick too, sicker than me even and I was very nice to him and cared for him and said nice comforting words to him, so that just goes to prove how humane I am by showing compasion to the enemy.

I didn't get to see my grannboy for almost a whole week and I think that was worse than the sickness.

We had our grandogger Molly over again last night.
We got Wendy and Jesse a new to them dryer and when Mike brought it in and set it up Molly jumped into his lap and begged to go for a ride in the truck and stay overnight at the farm.
Her parents said it was ok, so she got to go with Gramps in the truck and hang her head out the window and chase a skunk and play with the cats and bark at the geese and kiss the llamas and roll in the grass and get a bath and have her nails trimmed.

This picture was taken a month or so ago, but you get the idea.

No baby geese yet but that Mother Goose is doing her very best to hatch them.
She's even scared off Pearl who loves nothing more than fresh eggs in the morning.
We have Ma Goose barricaded in her house but we also have to leave it open enough for her to get out and eat and Nanny to get in to sleep which pretty much leaves it wide open for a wiley pig so obviously that goose has the pig on the run or maybe Nanny just had a word with Pearl and told her who's boss in the barnyard and to back away from the eggs.

Remember we had to move Pearl into the barnyard because her and the very baaaa'd sheep were going under the fence into the mobile spaces and foraging on the trailer park peoples long green grass?
Well now she's nosing under the fence to go into the lower pasture to eat the blackberry bushes which is ok with me, but she is scaring the dogsh!t out of the llamas.
I can't for the life of me figure out why the only two things on this farm that scares our strong and mighty camelid protectors is Pooter and Pearl.

Go figure.

Have you made these?

They are on sale in every store in the world for under a dollar and they're worth every penny.
Six tells me they're on sale for the feeding frenzy otherwise known as Super Bowl Sunday, but it doesn't much matter to me why, all I care about is how good they are.
Go get yourself some.

Criss Cross Applesauce

Yesterday Six and I went to see our grannyboy and ended up coming home with our three legged granddogger Molly.
She is the most human like dog I have ever known and she loves to come and play at the farm and even though she may only have three legs she gives our black and white boys a run for their money!

A few years ago Molly was hit by a car but managed to crawl home.
The car that hit her didn't stop to help or even look at her tags to notify Wendy and Jesse.
Luckily they were able to get her to the vet in time to save her and let me assure you, losing that leg didn't slow her down a bit.
So last night we had a bed full of dogs, all but Buddy who sleeps in a heap on the floor beside the bed.
We have a king size Craftmatic fully adjustable bed which consists of two twins so I can have my own blankets never tucked and seldom washed and six can have his pristinely made hospital cornered practically starched crisp sheets with fancy laid blankets made every day bed.
Whatever, don't judge, it works.
Barty sleeps in the ditch where the beds meet, Pooter sleeps at the end on feet and last night Molly burrowed under the covers so she could be directly on the heated mattress and snugged in the blankets.
She's no dummy, she went straight for the business of a good nights sleep.
I'll be sad to take her home today, but glad to see my grannyboy!

We have a goose sitting on a stack of eggs in the goat house.
Doesn't it seem early in the year for that?

Here's the Boss of the barnyard keeping on eye on everyone.

And here's a picture of Judy the camera hog getting up close and personal.

I think Judy someone needs to call Jenny... If you get my drift.

Pearl is still in the barnyard.
So far so good.

Now, for something completely different.
My friend Deb over at Postcards from the Edge did a blog post the other day about family, friends and crossing her legs when she pees.
What?
Yes.
Deb says she crosses her legs left over right when she pees so today I want to take a poll on how you go.
Do you cross your legs?
Take your shoes off?
Door open door closed?
This topic turned into quite the discussion on Facebook and I bet it would have trended worldwide on Twitter had we taken it to the tweets.
So, let me know, how you go.

Barnyard Woes

If it's not one thing it's two sheep and a pig.
Bell, Judy and Pearl have apparently been sneaking off into the mobile spaces when we're not looking, so yesterday I had to go on a livestock reconnaissance mission.
Pearl was easy to retrieve because if there's food involved she comes running.
The only problem was, Pearl was obviously the brains of the operation because after she made her way to the right side of the fence, dumb and dumber Bell and Judy were stuck on the wrong side.
I walked all the way up the pasture with my menagerie in tow which consisted of one black and white dog, two geriatric donkeys, three woolly ewes, one ginormous white cat and a lone black duck.
It took a while, but I found the weak spot in the dilapidated fence and the two Baaaa'd sheep made a run for the hay truck.
Little did they know I had big plans in store for them.
It was going to be a short trip to their new digs in the barnyard complete with secure fencing, a fat goat and some obnoxious geese for company.

That part of my plan went smoothly.

Getting Pearl resituated was going to prove to be my daily undoing.
You see Pearl doesn't like to cross water and parts of our upper pasture are more pond like than pasture like right now from all the heavy rains we've been having.
There I was in my barn boots and housecoat trying to persuade one very stubborn obese pig to cross water and follow me through the sopping wet sod, bribing her with marshmallows and sweet feed to no avail.
I was slipping and sliding around like a troop member from Fat Girls On Ice.
I knew that this was quickly turning into a recipe for disaster, envisioning myself going ass over end falling in a muddy heap and ending up in traction with my rotten back.
So I gave into the pig.

Pig one, Farmer zip.

That is until today when I brought in the big guns.
The smart farmer.
The fast farmer.

The pig whisperer.

Six didn't really whisper, but he did cuss and convinced Pearl to see things his way and she is now unhappily back in the barnyard.

We'll wait and see for how long.
