There's another giveaway this week! This time it's all about thinking green. Leave a comment here, in an email or on facebook with your favorite "green" tip. Do you recycle? Do you use green cleaning supplies? Do you drive a hybrid or ride a bike? Tell us what you do and how you do it! Here's what I do... I recycle and have cut down on my garbage SO much that I don't even fill a can a month! Between everything I recycle and all the food scraps that I give to the critters, there's hardly anything left for the landfill. Oh, I also use the curly light bulbs : )
So here's what you'll get...
Three green cotton dishcloths.
One bar of handmade green pearberry soap.
One pack of green Orbit gum.
One green paper butterfly made by Wyatt.
And one cute green lady on a dangly spring with a hook.
And now, just to make you laugh, a picture of Wyatt at the pool. I plan on sharing this photograph again at his high school graduation and also at his wedding.
Super cute stuff. I use curly light bulbs. We burn as much trash as we can. That is supposed to be a good thing to reduce the amount of trash in the landfill...while at the same time creating air pollution. :/ We use reusable water bottles. We make an effort to turn off everything that doesn't need to be on. No running water while brushing teeth. Few paper towels and more wash cloths. :)
ReplyDeleteRight on with the water bottles! I get angry eyes avery time I'm at Costco and see people with a 500 pack of bottled water.
ReplyDeleteWhen 6 is home we burn all our garbage too, but I'm afraid of catching Oregon on fire so I only burn hot dogs in our fire pit :)
I use curly light bulbs. We have 3 recycling bins to one garbage can every week and I pack hubby's lunch in reusable containers instead of baggies or wrap.
ReplyDeleteRight on MRM!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite green thing is that we bought biodegradeable dog poop bags on ebay! Two cocker spaniels go through 2-3 a day, saving LOTS of plastic grocery bags from the landfill. We also got the dogs really healthy (as in expensive) dog food, so their poop has minimal impact on the enviornment. We are also buying all our meat from the butcher in the grocery store, so there is no plastic tray and wrapping to get rid of - just paper.
ReplyDeleteCheryl that is SO cool!
ReplyDeleteI know, the good stuff is a little spendy but if it's better for our buddies it's worth it : )
Remember when dog poop used to turn white on the sidewalk?
Hi Marilyn,
ReplyDeleteWell, I have been thinking about this all day. I am having a hard time picking my favorite thing! I recycle every drop of paper, tin, and glass. I use those fabric bags for groceries but if I have plastic bags, I take them to Fred Meyers so that they can recycle them. I use cloth for cleaning and napkins, no paper. I use biodegradeable soaps, shampoo, laundry, dish etc. No plastic water bottles. No chemicals in the garden. I have cut back on my plastic bags because you posted that link that said they take 400 years to break down! Ugh, that has caused me so much guilt! That's what all this recycling/earth friendly stuff does to me, makes me feel guilty! And those are the things that I do, not necessary my family. Converting my fam is my next "project", it'll be slow but I think I can do it. Oh, and Simple Green=my favorite product, cleans everything.
erin
Um, Erin... I think you are doing REALLY good! I think you may be the greenest person I know : )
ReplyDeleteOh, your son is just going to love the photo forever and ever. LOL!
ReplyDeleteTo be green, I
-turn down the heat in the winter and wear a sweater
-hang my laundry on the line in the summer
-recycle, of course
-avoid driving by taking the bus, walking, or riding my bike whenever possible.
-buy locally grown foods, whenever possible.
But did you know that industrial wind turbines are not always "green"? We've been led to believe by the wind industry that wind farms will save all of our energy problems. Actually, right now, with tax subsidies, it is profitable to put up a wind farm even where there is NO wind or insufficient wind. So little or no energy will ever be produced, in these cases. Even when electricity is produced, it is erratic, so no traditional power plant will be shut down thanks to a wind farm.
In the meantime, it takes tons of cement and metal to construct these things, and they are killing thousands of bats and birds, some endangered already. Many people don't know these things. Wind farms can also harm humans who live within a mile of the site, due to producing highly annoying noise and vibrations that disturb sleep and daily living and produce stress. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way about the negative environmental consequences of industrial wind farms!
I do support wind energy when it works and when it is sited properly. Sadly, this is often NOT the case!
I think we are mislead about so many things... I just found out last week that "made in the USA" labels don't always mean made in the USA!
ReplyDeleteNo not really. I have the heat on at 70 all winter all day, I hate to be cold. I drive a 14 mile per gallon suv. And lots of other stuff I won't say. :(
ReplyDeleteThats ok, you can still be thrown in to win ; )
