I didn't, I got a new neighbor.
And seriously, how much blogging would you get done with this guy living across the driveway?
Actually we've been very busy with lots of things, not just the neighbor.
We cleaned the barn and took it from this...
To this...
Still a lot of work to do, but it's a start.
We recovered three stalls, the entire front section and an enclosed run on the outside of the barn.
Now we just have to raise the center section and re roof it.
No biggy :)
We cleaned a big part of the pasture from winter blow downs and overgrowth.
That took days, it's a good thing we had lot's of quality supervision.
I've been making lot's of soap and lot's of rugs and found a new market on Ebay.
Ebay?
Who knew?
I thought the competition would be brutal, but Six suggested I try and I started selling stuff the first day.
But I'm all out of sheets for my rugs now so I have to make the trek downtown to the stinky Goodwill warehouse sorting station where I can get stuff by the pound instead of by the item.
All you need is a good air filtration mask and a hazmat suit and you're good to go for a days worth of picking.
I'll take pictures when I go, but I'm telling you right now it's an unsettling sight.
Last weekend we moved Wyatt upstairs and re purposed his room into a guest room and now I really feel like a granny because in my mind only responsible people and grandparents have guest rooms so that obviously puts me in the category of the latter.
I think I need to paint the room white.
What do you think?
The entire house is paneling and we plan to paint this summer.
Do you have any paneling painting tips?
Maybe the "guest room" will be good practice.
The neighbor's here, I gotta go kiss his face.
Remember, you can get daily updates on what's going on at the farm and shared recipes and gardening ideas and craft ideas and other needless information on the facebook page!

You certainly have been busy! The difference in the barn is amazing. Good that you have such qualified supervisors!
ReplyDeleteLovely :)
ReplyDeleteI do have a bit of panel painting experience. If you don't seal the seams with kilzs or something it will bleed thru no matter how many more top coats you try to put on. LOL 30 years ago when we were painting our first kitchen which was paneled and the seams bled thru PINK all over our lovely yellow! And we'd never heard of kilz so we just kept adding more coats....

Good to know!!
ReplyDeleteThere are two different Kilz, do you know which one we need?
I think one is oil based and the other isn't...
You know yellow and pink stripes can be very pretty :)
My GOODNESS! You have been busy!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the difference in your barn.
I love the guest bedroom but agree lighter would be better.
Don't you think a warm sand color with a bright white trim would be really nice!
DeleteI wish there was a paint fairy :)
I swear I would rather clean the barn than paint.
But I don't wannawashit... How come everything worth doing sucks doing?
ReplyDeleteOh well fine, I'll wash it and I wonder if you can buy vats of Kilz.
We live in an old barn you know so that means a lot of painting!
Do I get to be the first guest in the guestroom??? I'll paint to pay for my keep :) Definitely need to use oil-based paint over the paneling (and it's a pain in the BUTT, takes forever to dry and you have to actually have paint thinner to clean things up). I hate to break it to you, but you should actually SAND the paneling before you paint it :o But if you just can't bring yourself to do that, slop on a bunch of TSP before you paint - you can use a mop, no reason to be all persnickity - you have to get the shiny off. They're right, a good primer will make life much easier, but I swear oil-based is the only way to go. Sorry :( I'll be there on Saturday night, set me up with a roller, you'd be amazed at what a great painter I am :)
ReplyDeleteMUSHROOM!
ReplyDeleteThat's genious!
With sparkly shiny white trim :)
Perfect.
I'll go unpack my painting parka!!
