Pre Wedding Gift Jitters

The big school switch is a huge success!
Wyatt is making a quick adjustment and making lots of new friends.
He said he has a really good math teacher who explains things in a way that's easy to understand and everything else is falling right into place.
He even has a sleep over planned with two new friends this weekend!
Yesterday afternoon we went to see Rio and on the way home he was blathering on in the backseat and amongst all the chatter it slipped out that he couldn't wait to go to school today.
Are you kidding me?
Those are words that have never been heard in our house (or car) before, maybe we really have turned a corner.
Ok, or maybe it's all still new, kind of like a new husband puppy, fun and exciting until you have to feed it and clean up after it.

I'm having A Giveaway!

It starts today and ends Wednesday the 11th.
Here's how you win...
Leave me a comment here or on facebook with the best wedding gift ever.
Let me be more specific, the best wedding gift on a budget.
I've been trying to come up with something for months, but I can't think of anything. Well, I did think of something but 6 and Wyatt said it was the dumbest thing they had ever heard of and coming from the people who live with me, who hear all of my dumb ideas I knew I needed to go in a different direction and now I'm begging you for help.
Here's how this works.
You give me as many ideas as you want, you can email me or comment, it doesn't matter and then I will choose my favorite and most suitable, but the winner of the giveaway will be random, chosen by a random online picker app.
And the winner...
Will get to choose any two listings from my Etsy
Fun huh!
The wedding is May 14th so don't lollygag, I need ideas FAST!
The bride and groom are healthy outdoorsy types and will be moving to the Windy City following the nuptials.
Give me your best ideas people!!

Peas.

  1. I am so so happy to hear that the school switch is a success. I can't imagine how relieved you must feel.

Best wedding gift huh? That's a tough call. I know in my kitchen, I have two objects I use ALL THE TIME and always wish I had nicer ones. One would be a good sized skillet. Nice ones are pricey, and all the ones I have are warped. The other thing is a good chopping knife. Really good knives are hard to come by, so if you know of one you really like, that'd be a great gift to share. If I think of anything else, I'll be back.

  2. The last wedding I went to I gave a crockpot and my favorite crockpot cookbook. They love it and use it all the time.

  3. That is wonderful about Wyatt...

I know one of my favorite gifts was a "night out". Now I got married in the dark ages so a night out cost a lot less back then. But the giver gave us two tickets to a Broadway show and dinner.

You could put something together that didn't cost much but still gave them an evening.

What was nice about it was after all the fuss and excitement of the wedding and honeymoon you come home to .....life. No more fuss, no more dates, no more excitement. Just jobs, housework and getting used to living with someone. Having a "date" to look forward to and then to to enjoy was very nice indeed.

  4. When I got married as you know I was a kid still, and had just moved out on our own so we needed alot of stuff. Two of the best gifts we got were #1 a cooler. Sounds strange but we were always taking day trips places and it was the perfect gift for us. #2 was a huge basket full of all kinds of kitchen gadgets. Nice ones. Not the cheap ones you buy for $1. I actually still have some 13 years later. Another idea: Nice towels (I didn't finally buy nice expensive towels until last year)

  5. I'm so happy for wyatt!
Um, why don't you get a big basket and fill it with dish towels and all the other goodies you make? Homemade stuff is the best. You could always use cookbooks and any of your other favorite stuff from the store as fillers if you need to. It's like sharing all of YOUR favorite things with someone who may not have favorite things yet (just like Oprah!!!!). I'd put an "Ove' Glove" in my basket because that's one of my favorite things.

  6. Giving knives is bad luck, it will sever the relationship. Windy City! Give 2 Cub tickets and a gift certificate to the Cubby Bear. The perfect way to welcome them into the new city.

  7. Great news about Wyatt.

Wedding gift...hmm, what about stuff that you make in a picnic basket, or the ingredients maybe for a meal and the main items to make it? Obviously something that is shelf stable. I always think of a pasta dinner, you could can your favorite sauce or put in store bought jar, your candles, pasta, a nice strainer, bottle of sparkling grape juice and some goblets. Romantic...

  8. I never had a wedding shower (I got married in 2 weeks. shotgun wedding style.) so I didn't get too many gifts. But what I think would really be cool, is if you gave them a cookbook with lots of your favorite recipes written in it. I sure wish people had given me that since for the 1st year of marriage all I could cook was Hamburger Helper.

Or why not make them a cute basket with some of your soap in it?

  9. So glad the switch in schools is going well. A coupl e of ideas for wedding gifts--a cooler with a bottle of champagne chilling in it or a meal in a basket (I did homemade spaghetti sauce, etc.).

  10. My idea is the same as Tiffany's. I really like personal gifts and I love the recipes as a gift. I'd just print them out on some cute note cards, put them in a cute box, and then maybe give them with a microplaner.

And I'm so thrilled the school switch is a success!

  11. Ok gift ideas:

I'm a real theme kind of person. I love putting together gift baskets that are practical and usable.

If there outdoor type of people you could do a basket full of things they could use.

Your amazing soaps would be an awesome idea, if you have molds that are shaped like anything outdoors or a wedding theme would be very cool.

Picture frames the WORST gift ... lol I received probably 40 of them ... lol

Now something cool like a scrapbook made up of special pictures is always a hit. Even a very cool picture of them in a frame with people they know signing it with well wishes things they can hang up and always look back on.

Also found this idea and I thought it was a very cool idea:

fancy pasta, a small jar of sauce, a sauce packet, or make some homemade sauce, get a basket and if you're so inclined a small bottle of wine or sparkling cider, and arrange it in the basket. You could alson include a couple of candles in it as well.

  12. If it were ME recieving a wedding gift from YOU, I would love one (or two!) of your crocheted rugs. And your soap. I LOVE your soap!
Chicago isn't called the Windy City for nothin' so a blanket for suggling up on the sofa would be loverly too.
    Hope this helps. :D

  13. My sister in law to be bought about 30-40 empty spice jars, purchased a vast array of spices from the bulk store and did pretty labels up for them. It was the perfect gift for someone setting up a kitchen for the first time. And there were many times when I would read a recipe and think, oh, I probably don't have that spice but I'd check my supply and sure enough, I always did!

  14. well....hmmm I haven't been to too many weddings in my time but thinking about nice outdoorsy active people a food dehydrator would/could possibly be a great gift. Nice and easy way to make yourself a cheap snack that's easy to just put in a ziplock!!!
